LONDON -. charcoal blued frame engraved with foliage and - ADAM'S PATENT NO.4201 - and - ADAM'S 1851 PATENT - oval stamp. Five shot matching number cylinder. Single hold-off and arbour pin springs. Chequered walnut grip and engraved butt cap with trap cover. In it's original oak case lined in green baize, the inside lid with Deane, Adams & Deane label. Accessories include a good bag shaped powder flask with common top (most lacquer), correct double cavity tailed bullet/ball mould having Adams Patent oval "registered" stamp. Oil bottle, chamois leather cap bag and turn screw. The pistol with minor surface rust speckling. Very Crisp Near Grade One with 90% plus original charcoal blue finish. An interesting pistol, considerably rarer than it's English counterpart.

The rammer and double trigger with - W.TRANTER'S NO. PATENT - oval stamp (interesting to note the rammer stamp being upside down). Five shot cylinder with London Proofs. Chequered walnut grip with butt cap. In it's original mahogany case lined in green baize, the inside lid with Blissett & Son trade label. Accessories include a James Dixon powder flask (slight dents, much lacquer) matching number double cavity bullet mould with spru cutter, japanned composition tin, clearing rod and oil bottle. The pistol with some rust stains and no finish. Grade 3 Plus. N.B. Comparatively few Tranters were submitted for proof at London.

The brown etched ovate barrel with dovetailed silver foresight and cut with multi-groove rifling. The top flat engraved - DUBLIN -. The engraved breech with two platinum lines and vented plug. The tang with rearsight and engraved with foliage. Signed and engraved lock, hammer (spur broken but present) and trigger guard. Walnut full stock having chequered grip and long engraved iron cover revealing a three-round magazine. Hair trigger, stirrup rammer. Belt hook removed. Grade 3 Plus. Brl.7 3/8". N.B. Rigby's records show this is one of a pair sold to Mr T. Pinckney of the 40th Regiment.

Lot No. 649. An EXTREMELY RARE and HIGHLY DESIRABLE Flintlock Grenade Launcher, Circa 1700 by James Clarkson of London. The round iron barrel forged in one-piece, the muzzle with a 2 inch bore grenade cup having front, centre section and rear reinforcing rings, the breech part of 12 Bore engraved - J.CLARKSON LONDINI -. Acanthus engraved tang. The signed (feint) rounded lock of banana form with "dog" catch and engraved at the tail with acanthus. Rounded swan neck cock (top jaw and screw missing), the frizzen without bridle. Burr walnut stock with "hand-rail" wrist and moulded edges. Bronze furniture includes trigger guard with acanthus finial, baroque thumb piece escutcheon and butt plate having long tang engraved with acanthus foliage. Main spring missing. Grade 3 with some pitting and dark overall patination. A sleeper. Brl. Overall 10". Cup 5". N.B: James Clarkson gained a board of Ordnance Contract in Circa 1723. This is certainly one of his earlier works.

The walnut seven eighths stock of typical form with applied iron furniture engraved and embossed with palm trees, etc. The comb with typical iron rib running along the top of it's length. Top jaw and screw missing, signature on lock indistinct. Grade 3 Plus, a sleeper. Brl.46".
