The top flats engraved -H.W.Mortimer & Co, London, Gun-Makers to His Majesty-. Re-built colour case hardened breeches (Most probably by the makers) engraved with foliage. Sighted colour case hardened tangs engraved with foliage. Signed colour hardened locks with bevel edges, engraved dolphin hammers. Figured walnut fullstocks with chequered grips and spiral fluted pommels. Adjustable set triggers. Charcoal blued triggerguards. The bows engraved with banners and terminating with pineapple finials. Charcoal blued ramrod pipes and original ramrods, one with worm, the other with thread for powder measure scoop. In their original mahogany case lined in green baize, the inside lid with H.W.Mortimer pictorial trade label. Accessories include a copper and brass powder flask, ball mould, loading/clearing rod and powder measure for ramrod. Both forends cracked, otherwise very crisp, Grade 2 Plus retaining most original finish. Brls.10".

The breech with London proofs and back handle protruding through a brass lined slot to facilitate loading. The standing breech with double lug locking pillar. The tang and the side plate engraved -Prince's Patent London-. Back action lock. Walnut half stock with brass furniture. The triggerguard with bolt safety catch. The forend barrel groove lined in brass and with two anti friction rollers. Pepper pitting to lock. Grade 3 plus. Brl.29.5 ins. The brass work and general appearance suggests this carbine was built for military purposes, probably a trial piece for the Navy.

The charger graduated 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, 3, 3.25 drams and with top cut-off. Correct brass bullet mould with ebony handle and spru cutter. Foresight and tang sight. Japanned tin of wax lubricators, hexagonal bullet packet (torn) and cap tins, etc. The rifle Grade One. Brl.33".
