Lot No. 574 AN EXTREMELY RARE AND HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT 7mm Bayard Experimental Military self loading rifle. NVN. Designed and manufactured with a locked spring action by Bayard Werke in Herstall. Certainly Pre - WW1. The barrel with typical Mauser rearsight (Graduated but not numbered). The blued action with burnished rectangular bolt reminiscent of the C96 pistol having twin pivoted frontal locking lugs and long fire blued extractor. The right side with pivoted "Butterknife" spring loaded cocking handle. The rear with selector switch. Walnut fullstock with pistol grip. Blued triggerguard and box magazine of Mauser Pattern. The signed locks engraved with game birds within a landscape. The action, blued underlever, rounded dolphin hammers and tang engraved with scroll foliage. The triggerguard tail with grip safety engraved with scrolls and -Improved Safety-. Figured walnut straight hand stock having chequered wrist and cross bolted forend. In its original mahogany cased re-lined (Probably in its working life) in red baize. The inside lid having John Rigby London and Dublin trade label. Each hammer with external hold-off safety bolts. Walnut halfstock with cheekpiece, chequered wrist, and carved fluted grip.
