Lot No. 739 A VERY RARE .450 Cal. Centre Fire Westley Richards Monkey Tail Carbine. Serial No.309. Round tapered barrel with correct sights and marked -Whitworth Patent-. The hinge-up breech with 'Monkey Tail' lever similar to it's more common predecessor but not as wide. Engraved -Westley Richards Patent-. This being number 3539 of 1867. Upon opening for loading etc. A pivoted lever on the right pushes the firing pin assembly rearwards to clear the chamber. The lock engraved -Westley Richards & Co 1868-. Walnut fullstock having two acceptance marks and -309- at the rear swivel mount. Brass furniture and original clearing rod. Near Grade 2. Brl.25 ins. *Research has found that only 25 such carbines were manufacrured.
