The first set of steel being 26". The second set being rose twist by W.Ford seriarly numbered to the gun 25". The sidelocks signed -J. Purdey and Sons- and enggraved with best scroll folige. The sighted tangs hammers and back action locks engraved with foliage figured walnut half stocks with chequered grips. The butt caps with hinged trap covers, one with spare nipple. Foliage engraved triggerguards and forend caps original iron ramrods. Very minor stock scratches. Otherwise Grade 1. Brls 16cm.

The rib engraved -H. Nock London gun maker to His Majesty- The breeches having gold lined touch hooles and single gold band. Each bevel edged lock with stepped tail and with makers gold poincon. . Bevel edged cocks and fizzens. The springs having rollers. The triggerguard bow engraved with setter and terminating with pineapple final. Engraved tang and throut pipe. Figured walnut half stock with chequered wrist. Grade 3 plus. Brls 31.25 ins.

Lot No. 688 - Temporarily withdrawn due it being part of a deceased estate. A VERY FINE QUALITY CASED 13 bore double barrelled Percussion Sporting Gun. Serial No.9220 by John Manton. Manufactured in 1825 and re-built by him from flintlock Circa 1840. Each wire twist barrel numbered -9220- and beariing London proofs. The concave top rib signed -John Manton & Son Dover Street-. Each breech engraved with foliage and having vented platinum plugs. Each lock signed -John Manton & Son Patent- and beautifully engraved together with the dolphin hammers with pheasants surpants and foliage. The highly figured 'Tiger Stripe' birds eye maple halfstock with cheekpiece and chequered wrist. The breech tang, butt plate and tang triggerguard profusely engraved with foliage and pheasant. The floor plate finial engraved with lion mask and terminating together with the throat pipe with stylised pineapple. In its original, mahogany case lined in green baize. The inside liud with trade label of John Manton 6 Dover Street London. Accessories include a Fine Sykes Patent powder flask with leather covered body. 'T' shaped nipple key, unusual brass/steel oil bottle. Four double end shot chargers marked -OZ 1 1/4- and a two piece clearing/ramrod in its leather scabbard. Grade 3 plus.
